On that day, Jesus went out of the house and sat down by the sea.

Such large crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat down, and the whole crowd stood along the shore.

And he spoke to them at length in parables, saying: "A sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seed fell on the path, and birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky ground, where it had little soil. It sprang up at once because the soil was not deep, and when the sun rose it was scorched, and it withered for lack of roots. Some seed fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it. But some seed fell on rich soil, and produced fruit, a hundred or sixty or thirtyfold. Whoever has ears ought to hear."

The disciples approached him and said, "Why do you speak to them in parables?"

He said to them in reply, "Because knowledge of the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven has been granted to you, but to them it has not been granted. To anyone who has, more will be given and he will grow rich; from anyone who has not, even what he has will be taken away. This is why I speak to them in parables, because 'they look but do not see and hear but do not listen or understand'. Isaiah's prophecy is fulfilled in them, which says: 'You shall indeed hear but not understand you shall indeed look but never see. Gross is the heart of this people, they will hardly hear with their ears, they have closed their eyes, lest they see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their heart and be converted, and I heal them.'

"But blessed are your eyes, because they see, and your ears, because they hear.

Amen, I say to you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.

"Hear then the parable of the sower.

The seed sown on the path is the one who hears the word of the kingdom without understanding it, and the evil one comes and steals away what was sown in his heart. The seed sown on rocky ground is the one who hears the word and receives it at once with joy. But he has no root and lasts only for a time. When some tribulation or persecution comes because of the word, he immediately falls away. The seed sown among thorns is the one who hears the word, but then worldly anxiety and the lure of riches choke the word and it bears no fruit. But the seed sown on rich soil is the one who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and yields a hundred or sixty or thirtyfold."

He proposed another parable to them. "The kingdom of heaven may be likened to a man who sowed good seed in his field. While everyone was asleep his enemy came and sowed weeds all through the wheat, and then went off. When the crop grew and bore fruit, the weeds appeared as well.

The slaves of the householder came to him and said, 'Master, did you not sow good seed in your field? Where have the weeds come from?'

He answered, 'An enemy has done this.' His slaves said to him, 'Do you want us to go and pull them up?'

He replied, 'No, if you pull up the weeds you might uproot the wheat along with them. Let them grow together until harvest; then at harvest time I will say to the harvesters, "First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles for burning; but gather the wheat into my barn."'

He proposed another parable to them. "The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that a person took and sowed in a field. It is the smallest of all the seeds, yet when full-grown it is the largest of plants. It becomes a large bush, and the 'birds of the sky come and dwell in its branches.'"

He spoke to them another parable. "The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed with three measures of wheat flour until the whole batch was leavened."

All these things Jesus spoke to the crowds in parables. He spoke to them only in parables, to fulfill what had been said through the prophet: "I will open my mouth in parables, I will announce what has lain hidden from the foundation (of the world)."

Then, dismissing the crowds, he went into the house. His disciples approached him and said, "Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field."

He said in reply, "He who sows good seed is the Son of Man, the field is the world, the good seed the children of the kingdom. The weeds are the children of the evil one, and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels. Just as weeds are collected and burned (up) with fire, so will it be at the end of the age. The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will collect out of his kingdom all who cause others to sin and all evildoers. They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth. Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Whoever has ears ought to hear.

"The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure buried in a field, which a person finds and hides again, and out of joy goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant searching for fine pearls. When he finds a pearl of great price, he goes and sells all that he has and buys it. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net thrown into the sea, which collects fish of every kind. When it is full they haul it ashore and sit down to put what is good into buckets. What is bad they throw away. Thus it will be at the end of the age. The angels will go out and separate the wicked from the righteous and throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.

"Do you understand all these things?" They answered, "Yes."

And he replied, "Then every scribe who has been instructed in the kingdom of heaven is like the head of a household who brings from his storeroom both the new and the old."

When Jesus finished these parables, he went away from there.

He came to his native place and taught the people in their synagogue. They were astonished and said, "Where did this man get such wisdom and mighty deeds? Is he not the carpenter's son? Is not his mother named Mary and his brothers James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas? Are not his sisters all with us? Where did this man get all this?"

And they took offense at him. But Jesus said to them, "A prophet is not without honor except in his native place and in his own house."

And he did not work many mighty deeds there because of their lack of faith.

Election Truth

Yes, it is true that George W. Bush received the most votes of any elected President in our history. He also received more votes against him than any other elected President in the history of our country. The margin of difference between those who want Bush as our President and those who do not is a measly 3%. The fact is that the electoral map is almost identical to that of the year 2000. Bush did win the popular vote by 3.5 million votes but he nearly lost the election, had just 68,001 votes switched in Ohio. The 3.5 million more votes came entirely from small states that have predominantly rural voters that typically vote Republican or lean Republican but don't always vote.

Who voted for whom?

If you are young (18-29), a working woman or a non-working woman, black, latino, Asian, or other, belong to a union, make under $100,000, have a post-graduate education, are a moderate or liberal, never voted before, a Jew, a Buddhist, or a Hindu, a single civilian, homosexual, don't own a gun, your values and concerns are education, unnecessary war, health care, and the economy, and you believe we are less safe from terrorism, understand that things are going horribly wrong in Iraq, your family economic situation is worse today than 4 years ago, believe that Iraq has nothing to do with the war on terror, believe the country is headed in the wrong direction, and have lost a job, then the odds are that you voted for John Kerry.

If you are a rich old white male conservative, a religious zealot who has some college, don't belong to a union, a married veteran who goes to church at least once a week, and your values and concerns are taxes, terrorism and "morals", you have a job but don't work more than full time, you think things are going swell, believe Iraq is tied to terrorism, your family is doing better than 4 years ago, you own a gun, think things are going well in Iraq, not concerned with health care, want abortion completely outlawed, hate homos, believe the economy is just great, think attacking Iraq made us more secure, and live in a small town, then the odds are that you voted for George W. Bush.

What's next?

What many fail to recognize about this election is that while the majority of people who voted for Kerry were voting against Bush, 30% of those that voted for Bush were actually doing so as a vote against Kerry. This is proof positive that the character attacking ads of the Bush campaign worked. They were successful at making people believe that Kerry truly was a flip-flopper and electing him would actually bring on terrorist attacks, homosexuals would be allowed to have sex with our children and our pets, and the bible would be banned. The real success of the Bush campaign was the strategy of fear, fear, fear, and "divide and conquer". They pushed their sanctimonious "moral" issues and people bought it, hook, line and sinker.

Now we hear about Bush's agenda. Is Bush going to work on health care, the economy, and education? Is he now going to push an agenda to outlaw abortion, make sure everyone has an assault rifle, or finally ban stem-cell research because it's unethical? NO. Well why not? After all he now has a majority in congress and should be able to do anything he wants. No, we find that his agenda is social security privatization and tax code reform. Finally! The American public has agreed in all the polls that tax code reform is the most pressing issue facing us today. Whew! Thank God for George Bush.

In 4 years George W. Bush and the Republican controlled congress will no longer have any excuses, (especially 9/11), nor will they be able to blame John Kerry for not being able to live up to their promises. The next 4 years will be a testament to the inherent flaws of the neo-conservative ideology and their policies. Unfortunately the majority of the American people have not recognized the failing example of the last 4 years.

P.S. The Independent Voice's prophecy, as told to me by God, is that Kerry is going to win by 5%, and it will be all over November 3rd. All the polls are wrong. All the preparation for fighting this election in the courts is for naught. The Lord actually said that he can't wait until this S.O.B. is out of office (he didn't actually use the term, but I know he was thinking it).

In addition to the traditionally strong Democratic states (especially Pennsylvania) Kerry is going to win Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, New Mexico, Florida, and Ohio.

P.P.S. Notice that God is no longer angry. He told me so much right before he let slip that Florida was going to Kerry by 4%. He wanted me to let the Floridians know that future acts of Him are on hold for the present moment.

Do you think they won't make any court challenges so that our union can remain stable and power can change hands smoothly (like the Democrats did in 2000)? I wonder... Throughout my tenure and beyond as the 30th governor of this state, I have been steadfastly aligned -- and until recently, proudly so -- with the Minnesota Republican Party.

It dismays me, therefore, to have to publicly disagree with the national Republican agenda and the national Republican candidate but, this year, I must.

The two "Say No to Bush" signs in my yard say it all.

The present Republican president has led us into an unjustified war -- based on misguided and blatantly false misrepresentations of the threat of weapons of mass destruction. The terror seat was Afghanistan. Iraq had no connection to these acts of terror and was not a serious threat to the United States, as this president claimed, and there was no relation, it's now obvious, to any serious weaponry. Although Saddam Hussein is a frightful tyrant, he posed no threat to the United States when we entered the war. George W. Bush's arrogant actions to jump into Iraq when he had no plan how to get out have alienated the United States from our most trusted allies and weakened us immeasurably around the world.

Also, if there as well had been proper and careful coordination of services and intelligence on Sept. 11, 2001, that horrific disaster might also have been averted. But it was a separate event from this brutal mess of a war, and the disingenuous linking of the wholly unrelated situation in Iraq to 9/11 by this administration is not supported by the facts.

Sen. John Kerry was correct when he said that seemingly it is only Bush and Dick Cheney who still believe their own spin. Both men spew outright untruths with evangelistic fervor. For Bush -- a man who chose to have his father help him duck service in the military during the Vietnam War -- to disparage and cast doubt on the medals Kerry won bravely and legitimately in the conflict of battle is a travesty.

For Cheney to tell the hand-picked, like-minded Republican crowds in Des Moines last month that to vote for John Kerry could mean another attack like that of 9/11 is reprehensible. Moreover, such false statements encourage more terrorist attacks rather than prevent them.

A far smaller transgression, but one typical of his stop-at-nothing tactics, was Cheney's assertion in last Wednesday's vice-presidential debate that he'd never met Sen. John Edwards until that night. The next day -- and the media must stay ever-vigilant at fact-checking the lies of this ticket -- news reports, to the contrary, showed four video clips of Edwards and Cheney sitting next to each other during the past five years.

In both presidential debates, Kerry has shown himself to be of far superior intellect and character than Bush. He speaks honestly to the American people, his ethics are unimpeachable and, clearly, with 20 respected years in the Senate, he has far better credentials to lead the country than did Bush when he was elected four years ago. And a far greater depth of understanding of domestic and foreign affairs to do it now.

Not that the sitting president has ever really been at the helm.

I am more fearful for the state of this nation than I have ever been -- because this country is in the hands of an evil man: Dick Cheney. It is eminently clear that it is he who is running the country, not George W. Bush.

Bush's phony posturing as cocksure leader of the free world -- symbolized by his victory symbol on the aircraft carrier and "mission accomplished" statement -- leave me speechless. The mission had barely been started, let alone finished, and 18 months later it still rages on. His ongoing "no-regrets," no-mistakes stance and untruths on the war -- as well as on the floundering economy and Bush administration joblessness -- also disappoint and worry me.

Liberal Republicans of my era and mind-set used to have a humane and reasonable platform. We advocated the importance of higher education, health care for all, programs for children at risk, energy conservation and environmental protection. Today, Bush and Cheney give us clever public relations names for programs -- need I say "No Child Left Behind? -- but a lack of funding to support them. Early childhood education programs and overall health care are woefully underfunded. We have not only the largest number ever of medically uninsured in this nation, our infant mortality rates, once among the lowest in the world, have worsened to 27th.

As taxes for the wealthy are being cut, jobs are being outsourced if not lost and children are homeless and uninsured, this administration is running up the biggest deficit in U.S. history -- bound to be a terrible burden for future generations.

This imperialistic, stubborn adherence to wrongful policies and known untruths by the Cheney-Bush administration -- and that's the accurate order -- has simply become more than I can stand.

Although I am a longtime Republican, it is time to make a statement, and it is this: Vote for Kerry-Edwards, I implore you, on Nov. 2.

War Of Our World: 66th Anniversary

It is the 66th anniversary of the broadcast of "War Of The Worlds" but the issues raised then seem to be even more pervasive today. To commemorate this thought provoking event The Independent Voice is republishing an article from Sept 8th.

Oct. 30, 1938 Orson Welles leads millions of people to believe that aliens from Mars were invading New Jersey. The production caused widespread panic. Thousands evacuated their homes. Highways were filled with escaping cars. Weeks later, those that had "escaped" to the mountains had to be convinced to come back. The aftermath of this broadcast was so traumatic it spurred legislation banning the use of "news" format in fictional radio plays for years afterwards.


Columnist Dorothy Thompson, New York Tribune, November 2, 1938:
All unwittingly, Mr. Orson Welles and the Mercury Theater of the Air have made one of the most fascinating and important demonstrations of all time. They have proved that a few effective voices, accompanied by sound effects, can convince masses of people of a totally unreasonable, completely fantastic proposition as to create a nation-wide panic.

They have demonstrated more potently than any argument, demonstrated beyond a question of a doubt, the appalling dangers and enormous effectiveness of popular and theatrical demagoguery....

Hitler managed to scare all of Europe to its knees a month ago, but he at least had an army and an air force to back up his shrieking words. But Mr. Welles scared thousands into demoralization with nothing at all.

Howard Koch, the scriptwriter for the H.G. Wells classic the "War Of The Worlds" wrote,

"... the submerged anxieties of tens of thousands of Americans surfaced and coalesced in a flood of terror that swept the country. Between nine o'clock Eastern Standard Time and the dawn of the next day, men, women and children in scores of towns and cities across the nation were in flight from objects that had no existence except in their imaginations."

The questions and implications are no different today then they were the day before Halloween, 1938. How can we be so sure that our reality is really "real"? What would we do in a situation like that? Would you flee to the mountains? Would you kill yourself to avoid the perceived inevitability of a horrible death? Can our fears override our rational minds? Can people be led to incredible actions by manipulating their perception of reality through fear? Are you being manipulated right now?

Who's reports should we believe? Who's telling us the truth and who's playing on our fears?

Is it still possible that our fears can be played on in such a way that "theatrical demagoguery" can coalesce "in a flood of terror that" sweeps the country?

Those kinds of things don't go on today, do they?

Why the attacks are never going to end:

How he formulated the idea for 9/11:

"God knows that it had not occurred to our mind to attack the towers, but after our patience ran out and we saw the injustice and inflexibility of the American-Israeli alliance toward our people in Palestine and Lebanon, this came to my mind. While I was looking at these destroyed towers in Lebanon, it sparked in my mind that the tyrant should be punished with the same and that we should destroy towers in America, so that it tastes what we taste and would be deterred from killing our children and women".

His thoughts on George W. Bush:

"It appeared to him that a little girl's talk about her goat and its butting was more important than the planes and their butting of the skyscrapers. That gave us three times the required time to carry out the operations, thank God".

Despite entering the fourth year after September 11th, Bush is still deceiving you and hiding the truth from you and therefore the reasons are still there to repeat what happened.

I never thought that the supreme leader would leave 50,000 of his people in the two towers to face the terrifying events alone at the time they were in need for him."

His message to the people of the United States:

"To the U.S. people, my talk is to you about the best way to avoid another disaster. I tell you: security is an important element of human life and free people do not give up their security. Your security is not in the hands of Kerry or Bush or al-Qaida. Your security is in your own hands.

If Bush says we hate freedom, let him tell us why we didn't attack Sweden, for example. It is known that those who hate freedom do not have dignified souls, like those of the 19 blessed ones.

We fought you because we are free .. and want to regain freedom for our nation. As you undermine our security we undermine yours."

It is not appeasement to know what our enemy is thinking and saying.

The Problem With Penises

You may have heard it said that this is the "most important election of our lifetime". Have you noticed that no one tells you why? What's interesting about this statement is that both sides overwhelmingly agree but do so for completely different reasons. The prevailing belief by the one side is that if a man of weak character, a Vietnam traitor, and a vacillating liberal like John Kerry is elected President it will be asking for more terrorists attacks. The other side believes that if you elect a sanctimonious and self-righteous arrogant know-nothing like George Bush, he may succeed in blowing up the world just yet. Some think that our domestic policy under the direction of the "other" candidate is asking for calamity.

The situation is analogous to the problem with penises. Some say that it's the size that matters. Some say it's the "motion of the ocean" not the "size of the ship" that counts. Most males think, or at least talk like the have big ones, but rarely does a man talk about his superb "motion". That would be a dead give away to his diminutive size.

There is a basic difference between these 2 men in terms of how they talk about their penises. Of course, people subconsciously recognize that strength is a metaphor for penis size. According to the followers of George Bush, he has an insanely huge one and that qualifies him to be President and John Kerry has a very small one. The followers of John Kerry recognize that it is usually the man that walks around talking about his huge member, that has neither the supreme "motion" or "size".

Examples of metaphorical penis size comparisons in our foreign policy have been exhibited throughout the history of our country (and the world). Ronald Reagan is credited by some with causing the collapse of the U.S.S.R. What most people don't realize is that when Reagan looked over and saw the size of Kruschev's member he got jealous. He wanted his to be at least equal in size to Kruschev's. So Reagan embarked upon a dangerous cold war game of catch up. He saw how large the Russian's cock was and instead of realizing that eventually he was going to become a eunuch, just like Kruschev wound up, Reagan decided to join him. After seeing what happened to the Russians due to their artificially inflated penis and the resulting bursting, did we change our ludicrous policies.

Now you make think that this penis comparison is crazy, but anyone who has boys or has seen a boy at the moment of discovery of their penis, understands. When a boy discovers his penis he pisses all over everything. Then he realizes that other boys have penises and they either have contests (a.k.a. pissing contests) to see who can shoot the furthest, or they compare the size.

You see the reason why this election is so important revolves around penises. One man thinks his is bigger than everyone else's and doesn't care if he whips it out and pisses all over you. He believes that his penis qualifies him as a strong capable leader. He doesn't recognize that other men have bigger penises despite their humility.
